A BRIEF PERSONAL STOP

Although I was born in Brooklyn, NY, my formative years were spent growing up in central New Jersey, in the Somerville/Bridgewater area. I have not been back to NJ, since 2011 and so en route to Cape Cod, this stopover provided a nice opportunity to revisit some favorite locations and spend some time visiting with old friends. But first, after leaving Raleigh, I had to figure out a route that would circumvent traveling North on I95 which is usually a congested mess by the time you reach Richmond, VA and the D/C area.

And so, I decided to head Northeast out of Raleigh through Norfolk Virginia and onto the Chesapeake Bay Bridge and Tunnel into Maryland, eventually winding up in Delaware at my first Harvest Host location for the evening, the Mispillion River Brew Pub in Milford, Delaware. Met up with Eric and Kevin, the owners of the pub who were most welcoming and allowed me to park right along side of the pub for the night. Kevin later told me that he has a doctorate in history, but now washes dishes and serves up brew. He said that with a smile on his face.

I can never remember the name of the brew I opted to sample in any of these locations, however, I can report that everyone of the beers I've selected have been awesome. In the background, that's Kevin, doing what he does best. Next stop Readington, NJ, but first...............

Yep, the dreaded laundromat. Had to stopover at a few of these while on the road and frankly, it's annoying and time consuming. One of several necessities while traveling for an extended period of time.

The Readington Brew Pub was impressive and once again, the folks here were very friendly and welcoming. I stayed in the camper behind the pub in a field which allowed Lenny to roam free for a bit, however, he was also welcomed inside the pub too. Of course he enjoyed all that added attention and making new friends. From the picture, please note the color of the sky. It was all that smoke from Canada making it difficult to breath for some folks. Thankfully, it cleared up the next day as Lenny and I

were headed for Lambertville and a chance to visit with Greg and Cynthia.

Sidebar commentary. Yes, it's really called WAWA and has been around for over 50 years and now has over 900 locations in a multi-state area. Besides the funny name, the thing about NJ is.......you cannot pump your own gas. Drives me insane just as it did when I lived briefly in Oregon. (the only two states with that crazy restriction) Some folks consider it a convenience, others, like myself, consider it a nuisance. And you don't even get S&H Green Stamps. OH wait, they stopped handing those out in 1978.

Definitely the pride of Raritan and probably some of the best pizza I've ever had and god knows, I sure have had quite of bit of pizza on this trip. Greg has been coming here for years and in all that time, not once did I even hear about that place. So, just how good is this pizza???

Simply amazing!!!!!! Dave got it right with his pizza review.....and the end results????

Gone but not forgotten!!! Wish this was a local option in Sheridan. My thanks to Greg and Cynthia for a delightful visit, wonderful conversation, an awesome lunch, and a chance to share a bit of Raritan with them for dinner. And now it's onto the Cape and a meet up with my sibs for a few days.
